Parley Leland Roundy

September 7, 1943 — May 4, 2025

Marysvale

Parley Leland Roundy, age 81, passed away peacefully at his home in Marysvale, on May 4, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was born on September 7, 1943, in Delta, Utah to parents, George Ervin and Erma Steele Roundy. Parley was everybody’s hero, but his most important titles were those of husband, father, papa, and friend.

Parley joined the U.S. Army in 1963 and was then sent to Germany where he served as an artillery radar operator. He earned a degree at Steven-Henneger Collage and worked with computers at the Tooele Army Depot. Parley was a master at any craft, a brick mason for most of his life and he worked at the U of U campus for 14 years as their carpentry shop foreman. He married the love of his life, Carol Elora Lott, in December of 1971, and they recently celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary.

For years, he served as the president of the Utah Pheasant Society while living in South Jordan and for 15 years oversaw the UTV/ATV rides for the Paiute County Jamboree. While raising their young family, they vacationed in the great outdoors with big family get-togethers during the various annual hunts and 4-wheeling trips on the trails of Paiute county where Parley and Carol built their dream home from the ground up.

His strong arms gave the best hugs, his laughter lit up a room, and his quick wit had everyone in stitches. Brutally honest, hilariously comical, and sometimes annoying, he always made people feel loved, important, and valued. Hard working is an understatement when describing Parley. He was extremely intelligent, charismatic and a jack of all trades. Parley played a mean game of cards and his relentless tapping of his fingers on the table drove Carol up the wall.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers: George Roundy, Nathen Roundy, and Lindsey Steele; and sisters: Florence Lowder, Nelda Ivie, Nada “Claudine” Cheel, and Novella Demkovich; grandson: Kevin Hill; and best friends and partners in crime: Ron and Glenda Bushman.

He is survived by his wife: Carol and their children: Leland (Channon) Roundy, John Wayne Roundy, Vickie Mortensen, and Julie Thompson; the “Round-Bush” family: Darin and Keri Bushman, Shannon Bushman, and John and Shelly Hunt; as well as many “adopted” kids, grandkids, and family members - they know who they are. He is “Papa” to nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild on the way.

Parley is and was a giant of a man and will be greatly missed. Dad was always on time; railroad time.

He will be laid to rest in a small family service with military rites, and buried in the Marysvale Cemetery.
