Noel Elroy Twitchell

February 8, 1938 — May 29, 2026

Noel Elroy Twitchell, age 88, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2026 in Chubbuck, Idaho. He was born February 8, 1938, in Delta, Utah, to Tillman Elroy and Chlora Mae Steele Twitchell. He grew up in Delta where he excelled in football, wrestling, music and theater during his years at Delta High School.

Noel attended Brigham Young University (BYU) where his extraordinary musical talents flourished. He later served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in the North Central States Mission. Upon returning to BYU he continued performing in operas and theatrical productions. This is where he met the love of his life, Royce Elaine Campbell. She was a pianist that accompanied one of the productions he was performing in. It was love at first sight.

Noel and Royce later married and were sealed in the Manti LDS Temple on September 8,1961. Together they built a beautiful life centered on music, family, and service. They raised their three daughters, Amanda, Hilary and Heidi, in North Salt Lake, Utah.Throughout Utah and beyond, Noel became well known for his rich bass voice and his stage presence. He appeared in numerous leading roles for Utah Opera, Utah Valley Civic Opera, Pioneer Memorial Theatre, Valley Music Hall and Symphony Hall. He was especially beloved for portraying Scrooge in the annual production at the Triad Theatre. In addition to his opera talent and stage career, Noel also sang the National Anthem for the Salt Lake Golden Eagles, Utah Stars and Utah Jazz. He also appeared in television commercials and voice-over work throughout Utah.

In the mid 80’s Noel, Royce and their youngest daughter Heidi moved to New York City. Here, Noel joined Local One and worked as a stagehand at NBC for more than 30 Years. During that time he toured with the national company “Me and My Girl”, performed as a soloist at Carnegie Hall and St. Patrick’s Cathedral, he also appeared in musical productions, and a performance on the Today show.

Noel was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served faithfully in many callings throughout his life. One of his greatest joys was serving alongside Royce in the Manhattan First Ward and later as ordinance workers in the Manhattan Temple. When Royce lost her eyesight, Noel lovingly became her constant support and companion. He often said that serving beside her was his favorite calling of all. Noel was also an avid sailor and craftsman, his love of sailing on the Great Salt Lake inspired his passion for building museum quality model sailing ships. Several ships were displayed on sets at NBC’s Today Show.

Above all, Noel will be remembered for his deep devotion to Royce, his love for his family, his powerful voice, generous spirit, and the joy he brought to all who knew him.
