Lyla Rae Talbot Morris

March 31, 1935 — February 12, 2026

Delta, Utah

Lyla Rae Talbot Morris, age 90, passed away peacefully at Millard Care and Rehab in Delta, Utah, on Wednesday, February 12, 2026. Lyla was born March 31, 1935, in Hinckley, Utah, to George Cluff Talbot and Ruth Western Talbot. She was the first of five children and was raised in Hinckley, where she learned the value of family, faith, hard work, and genuine kindness. Her family farmed and raised cattle, instilling in her a lifelong work ethic. She often recalled having to help with the housework while her sister, Sherlene, enjoyed the outdoor farm chores.

She was the valedictorian of her class and among the last class to graduate from Hinckley High School before it closed. After graduation, she worked for D. Stevens Department Store in Delta and later for First Security Bank. While working at the bank, she won a trip to Hawaii but chose instead to use the money to marry her sweetheart, Lawrence J. Morris.

Lyla met Larry through her best friend, Dorothy Morris, and they were married March 13, 1954. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple. Together they raised six children: Randy, Layne, Shellie, Marilee, Kelli, and Kori.

Lyla enjoyed bowling, golfing, and in her younger years, water skiing. She especially loved traveling with friends to national bowling competitions and golf tournaments. Music was also a treasured part of her life. Along with Anna Lee Hepworth and Ione Christensen, and accompanied by her mother Ruth, she shared her singing talents at funerals, church functions, and community events.

After raising their children, Lyla joined Larry in Arizona, where he worked with his brother Gary at Morris Ag Air. She loved Arizona and delighted in visits from family and friends. She often flagged for Gary as he and his crew sprayed fields and took pride in reading maps and arriving at the next field ahead of the aircraft.

Many cherished memories were made during winters spent in Arizona with family and lifelong friends. February visits often became “retirement practice,” filled with jam sessions at trailer parks, date shakes at the date farm, scenic drives through farm country, and treasured Thanksgiving traditions that included dinner at Golden Corral, a movie, and family games.

Lyla and Larry enjoyed playing cards, attending swap meets, and spending time across the border in Algodones. After Larry’s passing in 2006, Lyla continued spending winters in Arizona, often accompanied by her sister Sherlene.

She was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many callings, including Relief Society president, Primary teacher, ward organist, temple organist, and other service roles.

Lyla is survived by her children: Randy Morris, Delta; Layne (Patti) Morris, Kannarville; Shellie (Lewis) Dutson, Delta; Marilee Ryerson, Arizona; Kelli Killmer, Idaho; and Kori (Ken) Thomas, Pleasant Grove, Utah; brothers: Carl “Butch” (Lorrilee) Talbot of St. George, Utah; Russ (Leslie) Talbot of St. George, Utah; sister: Marcia Day of Cedar City, Utah; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband: Larry; her parents: Cluff and Ruth Talbot; her sister and brother-in-law: Sherlene and Hal Evans; brother-in-law: Gary Day; and son-in-law: Steve Ryerson.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, February 16, at 11:00am, at the Delta LDS Stake Center, 125 Whitesage Ave. A Viewing will be held 9:00–10:40am, prior to the service.
