John Victor Ramses

Feb 15, 1960 — Jun 25, 2026

John Victor Ramses, age 66, passed away unexpectedly on June 25, 2026 of a heart failure in his home town of Delta, Utah. John was born on February 15, 1960 in Murray, Utah to Michael Thomas and Deanna Stark Plattner. When he was born, he was given the name John Michael Plattner. He would grow up with a deep affection for both his father, Michael, and his stepfather, Jerry Dewsnup. He chose the name John Victor Ramses, because it didn’t show favoritism to either.

John had an incredible mind. He was an artist and a musician, playing guitar and singing. He was a published author. His book “Quest for Peralta Gold: A Hidden History of Red Mountain” mixed history and adventure as it claimed to solve the mystery of the Lost Dutchman Mine by pinpointing the location of the Peralta family’s Sombrero Mines at Red Mountain, Arizona, using a deciphered map. He took the reader along his own journey as he discovered the landmarks of his source map.

John was also a skilled presenter. During the early 2010s he moved to Australia, where he produced his own talk show. He was a pioneer in the early days of podcasting. He was always listening to music. John Denver was his favorite artist and “Country Roads” his favorite song.

When he returned to Salt Lake City, he met Paul Dewsnup, who encouraged him to move to Delta, Utah. John’s stepfather, Jerry Dewsnup, was from Delta and they had spent many great times together in the surrounding area, exploring and metal detecting. John was convinced and moved to Delta, where he fell in love with town and its people. He had the good fortune to purchase and live in an old farmhouse which he remodeled and decorated by himself. It was still ‘a work in progress’ when he suddenly passed away. He loved his home and couldn’t wait return at the end of every day to ‘his little slice of heaven’.

John is survived by his mother: Deanna Dewsnup of Murray, Utah; son: Joshua Brown of Tucson, Arizona; daughters: Sarah Brown of Houston, Texas; Amy Evans of Australia; sister: Leslie Montano of West Jordan, Utah; nephews and a niece; also his very good friend of 50 years: Rob. He is preceded in death by his fathers: Michael Plattner and Jerry Dewsnup.

John will be greatly missed. A Memorial Service will be planned for a later date and his remains will be buried in the Deseret Cemetery. Giving him a permanent spot in the community he loved. Online condolences may be left at www.nicklemortuary.com
