Jason Reed Thomas

May 18, 1970 — December 8, 2025

Sutherland, Utah

Jason Reed Thomas, age 55, tragically passed away on Monday, December 8, 2025 in an accident near his home in Sutherland, Utah. Jason was born in Delta, Utah on May 18, 1970 to loving parents Michael Reed Thomas and Laura Moody Thomas Smith. Jason was the eldest of four brothers: Brandon, Matt, and Thurmon, with whom he shared a very close bond.

He spent most of his younger years riding and racing dirtbikes in the Delta area until the passing of his father when Jason was 13 years old. This led the family to move to St. George Utah. Jason graduated from Dixie High School in 1988, where he excelled in football, baseball and wrestling; sparking his passion for athletics. He later spent a year at Dixie College where he played football and started his education. At the age of 19 he served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Alpine Germany Mission. After his mission he finished college and later received a Bachelor's degree from Southern Utah University as an Educator. During his college years he managed the family business Recycle USA and helped coach the wrestling team at Dixie High School.

After receiving a job offer from his home town of Delta, he promptly moved back and began teaching and coaching at Delta High School where he remained for nearly 30 years. After moving into his family home in Sutherland, Jason started a family with his wife, Jan Marie Jackson, having 4 children: Jackson Reed (Emily) Thomas, Taylor Marie Thomas, Jace Turner Thomas, and Tanner Micheal Thomas. He later remarried Nicole Jan Peterson and had 3 more children: Brystle Nicole Thomas, Bostyn Kay Thomas, and Dake Clint Thomas.

Jason loved his career spending nearly all his time in the Palladium Sports Complex, out on the football field, or in his classroom following his passion for teaching English and German. During his years at Delta High Jason coached track, wrestling, and football leading the wrestling team to many state championship titles and inspiring many athletes and students throughout the years of his career. When not teaching and coaching, Jason loved spending time with his family outdoors, camping, hunting and fishing. He often referred to this time as being in “Gods Country” and “Really Livin’” sharing stories of his family and memories around the campfire. Jason was an amazing father, son, brother and friend who will be dearly missed but never forgotten.

He is survived by his 7 children; granddaughter: Macee Rae Thomas; mother: Laura; brothers: Brandon (Wendy) Thomas, and Thurmon Thomas; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Jason is preceded in death by his father: Michael Reed Thomas; brother: Matthew Joseph Thomas; grandparents: Juel Thurmon Moody & Eva Dean Pace Moody; grandfather: “Bus” Elden Reed Thomas; grandmother: Larene Wheeler Thomas; and several aunts and uncles.
