Janet Williams McDermaid, age 65, passed away unexpectedly on July 25, 2026 at her home in Hinckley, Utah. She was born on June 26, 1961 in Salt Lake City to Mervin G and Nellie Maurline Bunker Williams. She grew up in Murray, Utah, the youngest of four children. In 1970, her family moved to Delta, Utah. Janet graduated from Delta High School, where she played on the Girls Basketball Team, performed in the choir, and was a member of the Tri-Dels Drill Team.
Janet found the love of her life in her high school sweetheart, Todd Ross McDermaid. He gave her a promise ring when she was 16 and an engagement ring the day after she graduated. They were married on January 11, 1980 in the Provo LDS Temple. They were inseparable for the next 41 years and loved doing many of the same activities. They first made their home in Oasis, Utah, but Janet soon moved to Provo in 1982 to assist her dad in his bagel shop “Golden West Bagels”. She enjoyed working with her father, but after a few years, Todd’s job took the couple to St. George. While living there Janet attended Dixie College to increase her education. In 1991, they decided to move back to Hinckley. Janet became a florist, working with her dad again, at the “Rose Petal Florist” shop. Janet had admirable skill in arranging flowers. Even after Rose Petal closed, Janet worked with other local florist, such as Kousins Floral, enjoying her friends and working with the community. Along the way Janet and Todd raised 2 foster children, and adopted 3 sisters.
Janet loved having fun with her family and friends. She excelled at volleyball, water skiing and playing softball into her later years. She enjoyed riding 4-wheelers in the sand dunes with her friends. Janet was very independent. Because of her health, she lost both of her feet, but she did not let that slow her down, got around on prosthetic legs instead of a wheelchair. She was loyal, full of laughter, spunk and fun. She will always be remember as “the fun aunt”, organizing fabulous parties for everyone. We will all miss her very much.
Janet is survived by her foster daughter: Angel DeClay, Mesa, Arizona; foster son: Dan (Shelbie) Ropte, Iowa; daughters: Jennifer, Crystal, and Sarah; sister: Lori Peterson, Mesquite, Nevada; brother: Wayne (Melayne) Williams, Payson, Utah; sister: Joyce (Matt) Carmack, Ashby, Massachusetts; many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband: Todd McDermaid; parents; and her right and left feet.
A Graveside Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Schedule will be announced at www.nicklemortuary.com where condolences may also be left, and a link to the video of the service for those unable to attend in person. She will be laid to rest with her beloved husband, Todd, in the Oasis Cemetery.
