George Ross McDermaid

July 26, 1939 — February 4, 2026

Delta, Utah

George Ross McDermaid, age 86, passed away peacefully in Delta, Utah, Wednesday, February 4, 2026. Born on July 26, 1939 in Garland, Utah, the only child of George and Rhoda Seamons McDermaid. Ross grew up in Logan, and made many wonderful memories as a young man with his relatives. He would often travel from Logan to Salt Lake City to visit his extended family, and take his cousins to Adam’s Park and push them in the swing so high they felt like it was flying. Also push them on the merry-go-round even faster! He was so sweet and patient to those two little girls who idolized him. They had childhood adventures to Skanky’s store for penny candy, Adam’s Park, summer school for movies, and of course the Bluebird Café.

Ross attended Logan High School, participating three years in the ROTC program. After graduating in 1957, he enlisted in the US Army. However, after Boot Camp, by regulation of being an only child, he was transferred to the Army Reserve. He provided years of service to his country until his Honorable Discharge in 1964.

He met the woman who would become the love of his life, Joyce Annette Stanworth, while she was waitressing at the Bluebird Café. They married September 19, 1958 in the Logan LDS Temple. They had many wonderful years and three beloved children together. They first made their home in Logan, and he began working as a carpet layer for R&S Floor Coverings. Eventually he decided to move the family to Delta, Utah where Ross worked for Tolley’s Carpets. He enjoyed the experience of meeting so many people in the community. When carpet laying became to strenuous on his body, he worked as a security guard for IPSC.

More than anything, Ross enjoyed spending time with his grandkids. He would join in doing Coloring Books on the floor. They looked forward to the special treat on Thursdays, after mowing lawns; he would get his grandkids and his mother, Rhoda, and take them all out to Bennett’s Drive-In. He enjoyed taking them out to golf. After ‘testing out’ a new driver, and buying it, with a wink, he told them, “Let’s not tell grandma yet!” There was also always the #9 long-drive competition for a pop and a candy bar. His wonderful spirit will be deeply missed.

Ross is survived by his son: Jeffrey Lee (Nikki) McDermaid; daughter: Annette McDermaid; grandchildren: Adam, Jaycie, Stevie, Maclyn, Mitch (BayLee), Jennifer, Declay Parker; great grandchildren: Brix, Emma, JJ, Blakely, Crew and Axle. Preceded in death by his wife: Joyce; son: Todd McDermaid; and granddaughter: Paige McDermaid.

We express our sincere appreciation to the Millard Care Center for their devoted service.
