Fred Sherman Tolbert

Fred Sherman Tolbert, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on September 14, 2026, at the age of 80. Fred was born on October 1, 1945, in Delta, Utah, to Sherman W and Gladys Margaret Taylor Tolbert. He was raised in Abraham, Utah, where he learned the values of faith, hard work, integrity, and perseverance that would define his life.

On January 11, 1964, Fred married the love of his life, Winona Alldredge, in Oak City, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the St. George Utah LDS Temple on May 28, 1965, where they were sealed for time and all eternity. Together they built a life centered on family, faith, and service, raising six children: Fred Clay Tolbert (Laile), Gaylen Jay Tolbert, Jason Tolbert, Jeana Tolbert, Brent Sherman Tolbert (Shanna), and KristiLyn Van Dam (Matt).The greatest joy of Fred's life was his family. He was a devoted grandfather to 19 grandchildren and a proud great-grandfather to 12 great-grandchildren. He treasured every opportunity to spend time with his posterity and found immense happiness in watching his family grow through the generations.

Fred graduated from Utah State University and served as the FFA Advisor at Delta High School. Although he enjoyed teaching, his true passion was ranching. Determined to pursue his lifelong dream of becoming a cattleman, he spent most of his life farming and raising cattle. He possessed a deep respect for the land, livestock, and the values of honest labor.

Throughout his life, Fred also participated in several business ventures, including ownership interests in Delta Livestock Auction and Top's City Café. Whether in business, agriculture, or community relationships, he was known for his strong work ethic, dependability, and genuine friendship.

While he wore many hats throughout his life, Fred was never happier than when he was horseback in the West Desert of Delta, Utah. The open range, the cattle, and the rugged beauty of the desert were where he felt most at home. Those who knew him will remember his resilience, his quiet strength, his sense of humor, and his unwavering commitment to the people he loved.

Fred's legacy is one of faith, hard work, friendship, and perseverance. He lived a life grounded in his testimony of Jesus Christ and demonstrated through his example the importance of dedication, loyalty, and service. The lessons he taught and the values he instilled will continue to live on through the family he cherished and the many lives he touched.

Fred was preceded in death by his beloved wife: Winona Tolbert; his parents: Sherman and Gladys Tolbert; and his sister: Dorothy McFarland. He is survived by his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren; brother: Verl Tolbert (Judy); sister: Wanda Lee Anderson (Tom); and countless friends and loved ones who will miss him dearly.

Though his earthly work is complete, his influence endures in the lives of those who knew and loved him. His family finds comfort in the knowledge that he has been reunited with those who have gone before him and that family bonds continue beyond this life.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, October 3, at 11:00 AM, at the Sutherland LDS Church Building. Viewings will be held at the Sutherland Church on Friday evening, 6:00-8:00 PM and Saturday, 9:30-10:40 AM, prior to the service.
