Evan Wells Finlinson, age 68, passed away on February 27, 2026 at Utah Valley Hospital in Provo, Utah. He was born on March 7, 1957, in Delta, Utah to Dwain J and Harriet Wells Finlinson. He was the youngest of the eight children born to Dwain and Harriet. He had just turned six years old when his mother passed away. Two years later his father married Dorothy White Rogers, bringing two more siblings to the family.
Evan was raised in Oak City, Utah working on the farm and forming a close relationship with his dad and brothers. He graduated from Delta High School and attended Snow College. He served A mission in the Ohio Columbus Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After his mission, he attended UVU where he met Vickie Walker; and they were married in the Provo Temple. This marriage later ended in divorce. Evan went back to school and graduated from Utah State University with a Bachelors Degree in Education and a Masters Degree in Rehabilitations and Counseling.
After getting his Degrees, he was offered a job working for the Utah Division of Rehabilitation Services at the Delta Branch Office. This make him able to move back to his family home in Oak City, where he resided until the day before his death. Evan was a Licensed Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor and Nationally Certified Rehabilitation Counselor. He earned many awards for his dedicated service including: a Career Service Award, Best of the Best, and Tough 26 recognition.
Although he didn’t have children of his own, he taught and influenced many of his nieces and nephews as well as many of their friends. His favorite church calling was teaching Primary. He had a great love of the Book of Mormon and wanted all his students to gain their own testimony of the truthfulness of the Gospel. He loved Family History and had a display of all his family and ancestors who had served missions and encouraged every one that came to visit to learn about their heritage.
Evan is survived by his sisters: Judy (Ed) Lyman, Jane (Richard) Persons, Sharon (Brad) Hoenes; brothers: Ken (Sarah) Finlinson, Karl (Joyce) Finlinson, Brent (Ann) Rogers; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents: Dwain and Harriet Finlinson; step-mother: Dorothy White Rogers Finlinson; and brothers: Dwain Wells Finlinson, Rex Wells Finlinson, Vance (Helen) Finlinson.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 7, at 11:00 am, at the Oak City LDS Chapel, 35 Center Street. Viewings will be held at the Oak City Church on Friday evening, 6:00-8:00 pm; and again Saturday, 9:30-10:40 am, prior to the service. Those unable to attend in person may view the recorded video of the service. The link will be posted with his obituary at www.nicklemortuary.com following the conclusion of the service. Burial will be in the Oak City Cemetery.
