David Carl Peterson

Our Father, Grandpa, and Friend, David Carl Peterson was born March 25, 1953, in Fillmore, Utah to William “Donald” and Ellen “Maurene” Hanson Peterson. He passed away surrounded by his children, June 19, 2025, in Murray, Utah.

David spent his childhood in Delta, Utah, helping his father work on Nickles Farm. He also worked exchanging dirty laundry from the local motel for clean, along with various other jobs that taught him the value of hard work and being a dedicated, trusted Employee.

He met and then married Vickie Ann Gamble, on August 8, 1975. They were blessed with 6 Children: Christine Dawn, Charity Ann, Jackie Marie, David William, Casey Gene, and Kent Tyler. They made their home in Abraham, Utah where they raised their children and spent countless hours hunting the west mountains. They were later divorced.

David spent the majority of his life in Abraham, where he spent countless hours cutting wood, building corrals, sheds and his shop. Teaching his children to work hard, eat all their food, and to stop their damn boobing!

Dad worked for 38 Years at Cricket Mountain Lime Plant (Graymont), as a Maintenance Expert. He established many lifelong relationships with co-workers that remain to this day. Dad built an enormous skill set of all things hands on at the plant. If he could think it, he could build it, no matter what anyone had to say about it. He retired in April of 2018.

Retirement became his second job, as he bought a 1971 GMC to restore, a tractor to disk and till, ponies for the grandkids, a playground complete with the fastest Merry-go-round, tires swings, and tractor Teetor toter, and for a time a swimming pool. He attended and supported various grandkids’ sporting events, dance competitions, gymnastics and anything the kids were involved in. He held many sleepovers, rhino rides on the mountain, drifting on the highway, snow hood sledding and pony rides. Basically, if the grandkids wanted it, he would do it or get it.

Dad loved to go camping and hunting, fixing and restoring old trucks, watching endless hours of Mash and old cartoons. Hanging out with grandkids, (kids were questionable), telling stories of mischievous on goings during his younger years and a few unmentionables.

Dad was a good “Old Man” and made every day count. He said if you're not moving, you're dying. He had many projects yet to do but his greatest one was deciding to get back to church and do the things that were required of him. He had a strong desire in 2024 to get his temple recommend and be sealed to his parents and family for Time and Eternity. He set a goal to have this completed by the end of the year and true to his word he was able to go on December 26, 2024. He has given his children strict instructions to get there also. Dad had never been happier as he was over the last six months, he gained peace of mind, and a life filled with joy.

Dad loved his children and grandchildren beyond measure. All he wanted was to spend the time he had left with them. Most likely to tease, work and let them know that wasn’t how he did it and had a bone to pick with you. Dad loved to visit with people, I have been told countless stories of how people would run into him, and it just made their day better. Dad was one of a kind and we are truly going to miss him.

David is preceded in death by his parents: Donald and Maurene; siblings: Ellen Jean, Jo Ann, Lois Karen, Michael Don, and Keith Brian; In-laws: Geroge Gene and Ella Gale Gamble; and his precious infant daughter: Charity Ann. He is survived by his children: Christine Dawn, Jackie Marie (Jeremy) Harris, David William (Chalee) Peterson, Casey Gene (Nikki) Peterson, Kent Tyler (Shantell) Peterson; and of course his best dog: “JOJO”; 17 grandkids and 10 great grandkids.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, June 24, at 11:00AM, at the Delta City Cemetery. Viewings will be held at the Nickle Mortuary on Monday evening, 6:00-8:00PM, and Tuesday, 9:30-10:40AM, before traveling to the cemetery.
