Carol Pauline Wood Broderick

Carol Pauline Wood Broderick, age 83, passed away on August 20, 2026 in Delta, Utah. She was born on September 5, 1942 in Downey, California to Francis Byrd and Jane Eliza Beagley Wood. She grew up in Los Angeles County in Southern California with her younger brother, Gary. She had a lot of fun and enjoyed spending plenty of time at the beach. She graduated from Downey High School and wanted to see the world as an Airline Stewardess. However, the job regulations said she was too petite. So she entered Beauty School and earn her certificate in Cosmetology.

She made her home in Silverado Canyon, California. She got married and had 2 beloved children, Geoff and Genny. She opened her home as a Daycare Provider and took care of many children, along with her own. She also took in and supported three Navajo children, two boys and a girl, through the LDS Church’s Indian Placement Program. Carol was a dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and faithfully served in many callings.

Carol later divorced, but while growing up, Carol had many wonderful experiences with her brother and his best friend, Steven Broderick. After her divorce, they reconnected. They again were having so much fun, it was like they were made for each other. Carl and Steve were married on December 21, 1998 in Tijuana, Mexico. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple on September 8, 2001. They made their home in Calimesa, CA until Steve retired, and they moved to Delta.

Carol’s passion was animals. She grew up with horses. She was part of the Opossum Society, rescuing injured opossums. She once rescued a whole litter of baby opossums whose mother had been hit by a car. When she got to Delta, she took care of horses, goat, birds, dogs, cats – whatever animals she could nurture. She was also incredible supportive of her children. She brought three of her nieces into her home and cared for them as her own.

In her tiny body, Carol carried a gigantic heart. She never turned anyone away. She remembered everyone’s birthday and special occasions where she never failed to acknowledge them with a card and a kind word. Carol cared for her elderly neighbors in the Lyman Row neighborhood, checking in on everyone and helping wherever she could. We were all so lucky to have had her in our lives. We will always remember her love for red shoes and miss her bright smile and fun spirit very much.

Carol is survived by her son: Geoff Bartlett; daughter: Genny (Bradly) Tonne; several grandchildren; nieces whom she raised: Deanna, Debra, Denise and Dawn. She is preceded in death by her husband: Steven Alma Broderick; and her brother: Gary Wood.

She was laid to rest during a Family Graveside Service in the Delta City Cemetery.
