Beatrice Joyce Taylor Schena

Our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Sister, and Friend, Beatrice Joyce (Taylor) Schena passed away peacefully on July 25, 2022 in Richfield, Utah. She was 93 years old. Beatrice was born October 28, 1928 in Ruth, Nevada to Aroet F. Taylor and Ella May (Parry) Taylor. She then moved to Hinckley, Utah the summer after her fourth grade school year where she continued her education until graduating from Hinckley High School in 1946 – Go Mustangs! She grew up in a household of four brothers: Parry, Forrest, Darrel and Floyd; and a sister: Emily. Beatrice married Boyd Angelo John Schena, whom she loved and adored, on May 27, 1949. They had four sons and three daughters.

Beatrice had a beautiful singing voice. She traveled with several High Counsilmen as a teenager, had leads in school musicals, and was a member of the church choir from adolescence to the age of 89 when her talent began to fail her. Another talent Beatrice was well known for was her beautiful dancing skills, which she learned by standing on the top of her father’s feet as they danced throughout the house. Beatrice loved to ride horses and shared many stories of herself and friends going on adventurous trail rides while growing up. Although Beatrice was an accomplished cook and seamstress, she was also an avid hunter and fisherman.

She worked for Continental Telephone as a young adult, and again after her children reached school age. She was a member of the union and was voted in as the only female negotiator.

She loved her hometown of Hinckley, and was the Grand Marshal of Hinckley Pioneer Days Celebration in 2020. Beatrice was also a patriot. Was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary where she was in charge of displaying flags on the graves of servicemen on memorial day in Hinckley for years. She was a devoted and proud Democrat and helped for years at voting sites on Election Day. Beatrice was a member of the Daughters and the Utah Pioneers and was extremely proud of her progenitors – boasting at being a great-great-great-granddaughter of Brigham Young’s little brother - Lorenzo Dow Young. Being a dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Beatrice held many church callings including serving a mission at the Manti, Utah Temple.

Beatrice is survived by her children: Bernadine (Lynn) Julander, Elsinore, UT; Angelo Schena, Bastrop, Texas; Ree (Helen) Schena, Delta; John (Janice) Schena, Richfield; Debra Nightingale, Grantsville; and Gino (Kami) Schena, Abraham. Preceded in death by husband: Boyd Schena; daughter: Margo Schena; granddaughter: Angel Nightingale; son-in-law: Ralph (Debra) Nightingale; and daughter-in-law: Sherry Angelo Schena.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 30 at 11:00am in the Hinckley LDS Chapel, 188 N Main St. A Viewing will be held, 9:30-10:40am, prior to the service. Friends unable to attend are invited to view the recorded video of the Service. Burial will be in the Hinckley Cemetery
