Bruce Thomas Worthen

Bruce Thomas Worthen, age 85, passed away on March 9, 2022 in Price, Utah. He was born on September 24, 1936 in Ferron, Utah the youngest of the 7 children of Thomas Herbert and Lillie Hawks Worthen. While attending South Emery High School he excelled in band playing the tuba, helping them to win the Band State Title. He joined the National Guard during the Korean War. He was excused from overseas deployment during this time to allow him to stay at home and work the family farm because of the health of his parents. He also worked for the Lucky Strike Mine and hauled uranium from the mine to Greenriver.

While in high school, Bruce met the love of his life, Carol Christensen. They were married on December 3, 1954 in Price, Utah; and later sealed in the Provo Temple on August 16, 1975. After he was married, he and Carol moved to Moab, Utah to work for another uranium mine. Eventually Bruce started working in road construction and helped to build many of the highways and freeways throughout Utah and surrounding states. While doing this work, a terrible accident occurred. Because of it, he had to have his leg amputated. With determination, he kept working his job, but after awhile decided he would try his hand at something else. Bruce had the opportunity to bring Mr. G’s Gas & Goodies to Delta, Utah. However, his heart was still in construction and eventually he went back to his favorite job, being a scraper operator until his retirement. Bruce and Carol became ‘snowbirds’, living in Arizona during the winter and spending summers in  RVing to different parts of the Western States.

Community service was important to him. He was a member of the Price Jaycees and the West Millard Jeep Posse.

Bruce loved and enjoyed his grandchildren very much and always wanted to hear all the stories and see all the pictures. He would brag about them to everyone.

Carol passed away on December 1, 2012. He missed her deeply. We are grateful that thry can now be together. What a happy reunion they are having now!

Bruce is survived by his son: Doug (Cheryl) Worthen; daughter: Ralene (Dennis) Anderson; grandchildren: Jessica (Jared) Larsen - Briel, Asher, Tate; Stephany (Drew) Draney - Crew; Bryan (Mallory) Worthen - Porter, Sidney, Hal; Jennifer Anderson; Star (Gabe) Villigas - Gabrial, Dominick, Nellie, Lily, Ashley Vernon, Millie; Dana (Stacy) Gibb - Joshua, Everett; Drew (Kelsey) Anderson - Dak; Ryan (Dan-Vi) Anderson. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife: Carol; siblings: Wanda, Clive, Hal, Ray, and Margie.

Till we meet again, Pa Pa-Hey!
