Bonnie Jean Largent Ivie

Bonnie Jean Largent Ivie, age 83, passed away on Thursday, August 19, 2021, at her home in Delta surrounded by her loving family. She was born on February 1, 1938 in Delta, Utah, the youngest of the four children of Emmer Ted and Jennie Smith Largent. She grew up on her family’s farm and from a young age she loved animals. Her early aspiration was to become a veterinarian. While attending high school, her friend, Louis, set her up on a blind date with his brother, who had just returned from serving in the War. That man became the love of her life. Not long after her graduation from Delta High School, she married her sweetheart, Rodney Clark Ivie, on June 15, 1956 in the Salt Lake Temple. They first made there home in Salt Lake City where Bonnie helped Rod complete barber school. They then moved back to Delta to raise their family.

Bonnie had a strong testimony of the gospel and served faithfully in numerous church callings. She worked in the school lunch program; first in the elementary school, then to the high school where she served many years as lunchroom manager. She also donated plenty of time to the 4-H program. She was awarded an Honorary Chapter FFA Degree. She loved keeping her yard attractive. The bounty from her vegetable garden was only outshined by her beautiful flowers. Behind her home she kept horses, cows, chickens, rabbits, lambs, pigeons and even a pair of coyotes. She loved to be outdoors: hunting, camping and fishing. Every holiday season she took to the mountains on horseback to find their Christmas Tree. Afer Bonnie retired in the mid-1980's, she and Rod loved to travel, attend Delta High athletic events and go dancing whenever they could. Rod passed away on July 22, 2015.

To Bonnie her most satisfying calling was that of Mother. She was a wonderful cook, especially with her fresh baked bread. She was very proud of her four children and supported them in all their activities. Bonnie and Rod were honored to receive the 1994 Ninth Annual Southwestern Transition Conference Outstanding Parent Award. Bonnie took great joy from her dogs and cats and took excellent care of her four-legged family over the years.

Bonnie is survived by her children: Kathy Lynn Ivie, Darwin Rodney Ivie, Debra Jean (Jeff) Smith, and Troy Theodore Ivie; 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband: Rod; and brothers: Ted, Ira and an infant baby boy.
