Burial in the Hinckley Cemetery

Rose Marie Bolin Magowan

Rose Marie Bolin Magowan, age 91, passed away Friday, January 26, 2018 at her home in Enoch, Utah. She was born on August 20, 1926 in Eagle Rock, California, the 3rd of 4 children born to John Dempsey and Rose Marie Duncan Bolin. She grew on the family ranch in the Antelope Valley, just outside of Lancaster, California. She lived through the hardship of the Great Depression when they had to sell the ranch, and the War Effort, when she and her sister were asked to spend many evenings on watch of the coastal mountain range with, scanning for any enemy aircraft coming over the horizon. She graduated from Antelope Valley High School where she excelled in basketball and softball. While there she caught the attention of Alexander Magowan, Jr. They later married on February 16, 1945 in Glendale, CA while he was enlisted in the Navy. While Alexander was away at sea, Rose worked as a Bell Telephone operator in Glendale. When he returned, his skills took him to many jobs up and down California. They moved their family 21 times in 17 years, and added three children to their home along the way: Kathie, John and Michelle.

Rose was very good with numbers. She was hired as a bookkeeper, working for many construction companies and Social Security. In 1967, they moved to Delta when Alexander began working for the Autovon. Later they made a beautiful small home in Hinckley. Then in 1971, they moved Victorville, CA when Alexander was asked to help design the Los Angeles Phone Grid. He died on January 17, 1975, and Rose moved to Kanab, Utah, where she ran a Thrift Shop; and later to Enoch, Utah.

Rose moved many times and loved to travel. She traveled to many places in and out of the U.S. with her sister Margaret and sister-in-law Marlene. She loved to garden and grew beautiful flowers, especially her roses. She enjoyed reading, watching westerns, and her dogs. Her greatest joy was her family, and she was always there to cheer on her grandchildren in ballet or their other activities. During the summer time, she loved taking her grandkids on trips in the RV. She had a bubbly personality and a great sense of humor. She was a fighter, surviving breast cancer and lymphoma, and making the most of the many years of her life.

Rose was preceded in death by her husband: Alexander Magowan, Jr.; son: John Magowan; older brother: John “Jack” Bolin; older sister: Margaret Head. She is survived by her children: Kathie Stille, Reno, NV; Michelle (Alan) Talbot, Enoch, UT; 7 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; younger brother: Jim Bolin, Kanab, UT; daughter-in-law: Liz Magowan, Ashfork, AZ.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, January 30, at 2:00 pm, at the Nickle Mortuary Chapel, 190 South Center Street. A Viewing will begin at 1:00 pm, prior to the service. Burial will be held at a later date in the Hinckley Cemetery.
