Joan Carol Brenay Lake

At approximately 10:55 pm on the night of July 16, 2017, Joan Carol Brenay Lake, age 77, was once again united with her loved ones long since passed, as Heaven’s Gates opened to grant her admittance. Surrounded at the time of passing by her husband of 61 years and her children, Joan succumbed to complications of multiple health issues at the Utah Valley Medical Center in Provo, Utah.

Born in Mesa, Arizona on August 21, 1939, Joan was the twelfth of 13 children born to Charles Albert and Marion Beulah Skinner Brenay. Somewhere around 1954, Joan met Anthony Fielding Lake, who was a friend of her older brother, Leroy. The two began a courtship and about two years later, on February 4, 1956, they were married in Kingman, Arizona and were later sealed in the St. George LDS Temple on June 12, 1964. About six years into their marriage, they were blessed with the first of their three children. Robert Boyd Lake was born on April 7, 1962, followed by Richard Fielding Lake on March 20, 1964, and finally Tonia Kay Lake on September 10, 1968.

Joan excelled at practically everything she ever did. She didn’t believe in doing anything half way. Some of her many interests include traveling, camping, reading, sewing and quilting, cooking, canning, shopping, puzzles and playing all kinds of family games. She had incredible faith and loved serving in the primary and young womens programs in the church. In the early 1980's, she went to college with her son, Richard, and earned a degree in accounting which she put into practice doing bookkeeping and taxes for many years. Joan was always kind, generous and non-judgmental. She believed that her biggest asset was her family and she set the perfect example of how to love them unconditionally. Life dealt Joan a difficult hand to play, no doubt, but she played it well and never complained. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Joan was preceded in death by her father, mother and nine of her siblings: Arnold, Marion, David, Joseph, Henry, Ruth, Moroni, Virginia and Martha. She is survived by her husband: Tony; children: Robert, Richard (his wife - Rachael), and Tonia (her husband - Dan); brothers: Leroy Brenay and Isaac Brenay; and sister: Mickey Alred.

Friends and Family are invited to attend a Memorial Service for Joan on Saturday, August 5, at 11:00 am, at the Deseret-Oasis Ward LDS Chapel, 3423 West 4500 South, in Deseret.
