Julie Ann Dalling Draper

JulieDraper2.webJulie Ann Dalling Draper, age 59, passed away Monday, August 29, 2016 at Utah Valley Hospital in Provo. Julie won the race of life, but lost the contest of mortality to a rare form of breast cancer. She outlived her original prognosis by about two years. The daughter of Shirley Orme and Marshall Paul Dalling, Julie was born on January 31, 1957, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. She was the second daughter and third child in the Dalling family. Her father was engaged in the food industry, causing the family to move about in Idaho, Oregon, Utah and Washington. Julie graduated from Kamiakin High School in Kennewick, Washington.

Julie attended Brigham Young University where she received an Associates Degree. She majored Education, but was not able to complete her Bachelor’s program. While at BYU, she met and married Dean William Draper. They wed on July 1, 1978 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

Julie and Dean were blessed with four sons and two daughters. The family lived in Provo, UT; Reno, NV; and Hinckley, UT. While in Reno, Julie volunteered to teach an art program at the local elementary school. She also served as a docent at the Art Museum. She had a great love for classic art. She later served as a docent at the Great Basin Museum in Delta.

Wherever she went, Julie befriended all who came in contact with her. She was always cheerful and friendly. Her friends were dear to her as was her family. Julie served in the Primary, Sunday School and Relief Society organizations of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout her adult life. Her faith and devotion to her God and Savior was firm and fervent. She taught her children the Gospel and brought them up in the way they should go. Julie absolutely loved holidays. She was active in the Republican Women of Reno and Eagle Forum. She took great interest in local and national politics. One of her favorite activities was “stuffing” the Chronicle Progress and socializing with the staff.

Julie is survived by her husband: Dean Draper; children: Seth Carl, Amy Vee, Hugh Thomas, Clark Zemira, Carson Marshall, and Mary Ellen. Julie saw Mary graduate from high school, but did not live long enough to see her children married and bring grandchildren to the family. She is also survived by her siblings: Jeff (Connie) Dalling, Kathy (Bob) Dalling Haderlie and Lori Dalling.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 3, 2016, at 11:30 a.m. at the Hinckley Ward Chapel, 188 North Main Street in Hinckley, Utah. Viewings will be held Friday evening, 7:00-8:30 p.m., at the Nickle Mortuary; and Saturday, 10:00-11:10 a.m., at the Hinckley LDS Church. Burial will be at the Hinckley Cemetery.
