Lorna Fay Berlin McIntyre

LornaMcIntyre2.webLorna Fay Berlin McIntyre, age 92, passed away on Friday, August 26, 2016, in Delta, Utah. She was born October 25, 1923, in Huntsville, Utah, to David Andrew and Agnes Allen Berlin. She was one of 12 children, of whom only 5 survived to adulthood. She had many happy memories of her lovely alpine home of Huntsville. She graduated from Weber High, where she enjoyed participating in musicals and theater, and had many wonderful friends.

During WWII, Lorna worked at Hill Air Force Base where she met and married Lt. William T. Wichmann in January of 1945. They moved to his home in New Jersey, where they had two daughters: Marianne and Betty Ann. They loved living near the beach and near New York City. She worked as a secretary for a time at the brand new Monmouth County Racetrack, and also modeled clothing for a dress shop owned by a friend. Lorna also took loving care of her ailing in-laws until they passed away.

After several years, the marriage ended and Lorna moved back to Utah with her two young daughters. In 1956, they paid a visit to her sister and brother in-law, Klee and Rich Finlinson, who lived in Leamington; and it was then that she met local rancher, William “Bill” McIntyre. They soon married on June 12, 1957 in Las Vegas, and lived at the McIntyre Ranch. They later had a daughter, Catherine. Lorna loved living at the ranch and raising her daughters there.

Her husband, Bill, passed away in 1967, and Lorna went to work in Delta as a legal secretary for the Millard County Attorney, Eldon Eliason. After ten years, she was offered a job as the secretary for Jack Valiquette, the plant manager at Brush Wellman. She loved her job and worked there until she retired. She was successful and highly respected in these positions and developed life long friendships with many of her colleagues and with those whom she came in contact. Lorna moved from the Ranch after 20 years and built her own home in Leamington, where she lived for over 35 years.

Lorna had a beautiful singing voice, possessed a love of art and music and was a very talented seamstress. She was always active in many community and LDS church activities and charitable endeavors. She touched the lives of everyone who knew her, but also those of complete strangers through her many sewing projects which were donated to charities around the world. She had a kind, generous, fun-loving spirit, and a special place in her heart for her grandchildren and great grandchildren, who affectionately called her “Grandma Mac”.

Lorna is survived by her three daughters: Marianne Wichmann (Richard “Bud”) Bailey, Olympia, WA;  Betty Ann Wichmann (Brook) Pace, Leamington; Catherine McIntyre (Larry Smiltneek), Salt Lake City; grandchildren: Jade McIntyre Finlinson, Kelly Pace (Gary) Knudsen, Erin Pace (Jon) Winters, Kara Pace (Lance) Andersen, Marcus (Maria) Pace; great-grandchildren: Boston and Preston Knudsen; Rylee, Taylor, and Keely Winters; Tanna, Isaac and Sam Anderson; and Braxtyn and Stella Maria Pace.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 1, at 11:00 am, at the Leamington LDS Chapel, 90 South Center. Viewings will be held at the Leamington LDS Church on Wednesday evening, 7:00-8:00 pm; and Thursday morning, 9:30-10:40 am, prior to the service.  Burial will be in the Leamington Cemetery.

Special thanks to the staff of Millard County Care Center for the tender care they gave our Mom.
