Norma Erickson Evans

Our sweet mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Norma Erickson Evans, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 20, 2015, with her two daughters by her side. She was born on November 15, 1924 to John Norman Erickson and Frances Lizette Theobald Erickson in Sutherland, Utah. Norma spent her childhood on the 4L Ranch in Sutherland and attended elementary school in Hinckley. She enjoyed riding her horse as a girl and always had a place in her heart for animals. Norma had a beautiful smile and sparkle in her eye that could brighten anyone’s day. She shared a sincere kindness with everyone around her.

Norma was a dedicated employee and spent many years working at various businesses in the Delta area including Service Drug, Moody Brothers, Brooklawn Creamery, Sears Catalog, and eventually retired from the Millard County Credit Union. While keeping books for Brooklawn Creamery, Norma met her husband Donald Alvah Evans. They were married on January 19, 1948 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Along with raising countless pigs, sheep, dogs, and cats, Don and Norma raised two beautiful daughters, Jackie Lynn and Marilee. They also welcomed a son, Galbraith Keith into their family through the Indian Student Placement Program. Don passed away on August 1, 2004.

Many LDS church auxiliaries were fortunate to receive Norma’s devoted service. Over the years, she held several positions in the church’s Young Women program as well as the Relief Society and Sunday School. Norma was a committed wife and mother who always put her family’s needs before her own. Her home and kitchen were always open to her children, grandchildren, and a few barnyard animals.

Norma spent that last 6 years of her life in the Millard County Care and Rehabilitation Center where she was loved and well cared for. The staff there kept her happy and comfortable and she became a grandmother and friend to many during her stay. Norma celebrated her 91st birthday with her family just a few short days before she returned to her Heavenly Father.

She is preceded in death by her parents, and step-mother: Vivian; husband: Don; and sister: NaRee Stanworth. She is survived by her brother: Duaine (Diana) Erickson of Smithfield, UT; sister: Marlene Ogden of Kaysville, UT; daughter: Jackie (Reid) Ludwig of Delta, UT; daughter: Marilee (Bart) Cox of Orangeville, UT; son: Gil (Jenny) Keith of Blanding, UT as well as 10 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 2, in the Delta Utah Stake Center, 125 South White Sage Avenue. Viewings will be held Tuesday, 6:30-8:00 p.m., at Nickle Mortuary; and Wednesday, 9:30-10:30 a.m., prior to the service. Burial will be in the Sutherland Cemetery.
